How to Dye Fabric with Avocados
What You’ll Need
Fabric to Tie-Dye (towels, clothes, dish towels, sheets)
3-4 Avocado Pits & Skins, washed & frozen
Large Pot & Tongs
White Vinegar
Directions
Wash the skins and pits of your avocados. Freeze for better color.
Prepare your dye by adding the avocado skins and pits to the boiling water.
Boil for 40 minutes. After 40 minutes, take out the avocado pits and skins.
In the meantime, you’ll need to prepare your fabric by washing it in cold water.
Then, in a big bowl, wash your fabric again in 4 parts water and 1-part white vinegar.
Allow it to soak for 30 minutes. Wash it again until vinegar is removed.
Tie the fabric with rubber bands.
Let it soak in the pot with the dye mix on simmer for 30 minutes. Turn the stove off and allow fabric to soak in dye overnight.
Allow clothes to dry in the sun to allow the colour to get darker.
Rinse clothes in cold water. Let it air-dry and you’re done!
